Humans of OUTniagara
As a young boy, I was particularly drawn, in the stories I read, to the character of the “Prince” with whom I would wish, in later years, to live happily ever after…
At various points throughout my life, I oftentimes felt the need to come out but was fearful and repressed the desire to reveal my authentic self.
Following a career burnout, I eventually and thankfully came face to face with the realization that many years had passed, that time was fleeting and that true happiness could only be achieved by embracing Shakespeare’s wise words: To thine own self be true.
I eventually came out, in confidence, to my dear mother and, a few years later, to my dear father, sister and brother-in-law, as well as to family and friends, who, as my mother, all accepted and loved me unconditionally.
I began researching and learning about my identity as a gay man, gay relationships and love and slowly became involved in Niagara’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
A few years later, I met my “Prince” — my loving and devoted partner for whom I thank God daily.
We recently celebrated 11 years together and are extremely grateful for our many blessings: a wonderful life, our home, our feline family, as well as our many family members and friends.
Storybook endings do, indeed, come true…
