2SLGBTQ+ Movie Marathon

September 5, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 8:00 pm

Free

Join OPIRG Brock, Brock Pride, and the Brock Student Justice Centre on Thursday, September 5th for an all day movie marathon of Two-Spirit, Trans, and Queer films in the SJC (TH 252A, Brock University Main Campus)! We will be screening the following films:

10-12pm: Her Story(2016)
Her Story is a 6-episode new-media series that looks inside the dating lives of trans & queer women as they navigate the intersections of desire & identity.

12-2pm: Tangerine(2015)
This story follows a transgender sex worker who discovers her boyfriend and pimp has been cheating on her.

2-4pm: Two Spirits(2009)
Filmmaker Lydia Nibley explores the cultural context behind the tragic murder of Navajo youth, Fred Martinez.

4-6pm: Moonlight(2016)
A young African-American man grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood.

6-8pm: Audience Choice!
Check out Brock Pride, OPIRG Brock, and the SJC’s social media to vote for the film you most want to watch! The options include:

CW: murder, suicide, racism, colonialism, transphobia, homophobia, sexual and physical violence, addictions

We acknowledge that these films don’t represent the complex and divergent experiences of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities and, in some instances, perpetuate problematic narratives of marginalized folkx. Following the screening of each of the movies, we will open a discussion to de-brief the contents of the film.

Snacks will be provided. Students and non-students are welcome!
