Humans of OUTniagara
The experience of speaking about your sexuality is unique, but I always took comfort in knowing that sexuality is a very important part of the human experience and something we all share. To be honest, I don’t remember having a conversation with every important person in my life. I remember speaking with my parents, my godmother, my best friend.
I was in my late 20s and I remember feeling that when I was ready to tell my people, it would be something that they would gossip about or judge me for – reflecting on that time, I was entirely wrong. People in my life wanted to see me happy, mentally and emotionally healthy and achieve everything I desired. In retrospect, I judged them, and they didn’t judge me at all.
The weight of not being honest with yourself or the people you love is a heavy burden to bear.
Thank you to OUTniagara for providing me with the opportunity to share part of my story.
